Love Actually is one of the most popular Christmas movies. Rated 3.8 out of 5 on AlloCiné, this is one of the enduring classics of the period that, despite the passage of time and some recent issues, remains very popular with the public.
Fake barbie?
This holiday romantic comedy is directed by Richard Curtis (4 Weddings and 1 Funeral) with an ensemble cast that includes Hugh Grant, Emma Thompson, Bill Nye, Laura Linney, Colin Firth, Martin McCutcheon, Liam Neeson, Joanna Page, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Andrew Lincoln , Martin Freeman and Kira Knightley.
And in addition to having that little touch of Christmas magic that wraps the various intrigues around the delicious gift, a small detail probably escaped even fans of the film, because the moment in which it appears passes so quickly.
in 45 minutes and 47 seconds
The scene unfolds between Karen (Emma Thompson) and Harry (Alan Rickman). The latter sits and draws small children in her hands, while Karen hangs up the phone to her brother, the Prime Minister, played by Hugh Grant. The discussion turns to singer Joni Mitchell, who Harry hates and who Karen has put on the back burner while preparing Christmas presents.
She then picks up two dolls she intends to give away, clearly inspired by the Mattel brand, one of which she describes as a “sado-masochist” and the other as a “drag queen.” The first is dressed in leather and chains, the second is covered in a pink skirt and a boa on her shoulders, with an extra-high slit on her head. And if they are indeed two Mattel dolls, we see that the one she’s holding in her left hand is actually Ken in disguise, not Barbie!
A little tip from the film’s promotional team, who obviously had a lot of fun inventing these dolls, which are clearly not part of the official Barbie range!
