Gone Girl is available in the Disney+ catalog.
When Gone girl was released in theaters in 2014 under the direction of David Fincher and based on the best-seller by Gillian Flynnthe film quickly has become one of the most talked about thrillers of all time. But what many fans don’t know is that Gone Girl has disturbing parallels to true crime cases, particularly the sad case of Laci and Scott Peterson.

Gone Girl shows Amy Dunne (Rosamund Pike), who disappears on her wedding anniversary, leaving behind her husband Nick (Ben Affleck) in trouble. He begins to act uncontrollably, abusing lies and becomes the police’s number one suspect. With the support of her twin sister, Margo (Carrie Coon), Nick tries to prove his innocence and, at the same time, tries to find out what happened to Amy.
The Peterson case: coincidence or inspiration?
On Christmas Eve 2002, 27-year-old Laci Peterson disappeared in Modesto, California. Eight months pregnant, her disappearance generated a media storm, with her husband, Scott Peterson, expressing concern for his wife.
However, the investigation revealed that the couple suffered from financial problems, an unstable marriage and Scott’s mistress. When Laci and the baby were found dead months later, Scott was convicted of double murder.
