“Words fail to describe this little masterpiece”: rated 4.2 out of 5, this is Richard Gere’s best film and it can amaze!

44 years after American Gigolo, Richard Gere reunites with the director who made him a star, Paul Schrader. The film, this time, is very different from their first collaboration. In Oh, Canada, the actor plays a great dying librarian who gives a final interview in which he reminisces about the highlights of his life.

This drama sounds like a testament to the director – Paul Schroeder has recently had serious health problems. To embody the younger version of Richard Gere’s character on screen, the filmmaker echoes Jacob Ellord’s revelation from the Euphoria series.

Known for his roles in romantic comedies – especially Pretty Woman with Julia Roberts, a global phenomenon – Richard Gere has also acted for many great directors. During his illustrious career, what is the audience’s favorite film on AlloCiné according to the ratings? The answer is more surprising than it seems.

Among the actor’s films, Terrence Malick’s classic Les Moissons du ciel receives high marks, 4 out of 5 for the audience and 5 for the press, but it is the drama Hachi, released in 2020, that received the palm. 4.2 out of 5 for viewers – compared to a rating of 2.2 out of 5.

Why is this a surprising choice? Objectively, Las Holstrom’s Hachi is not as good a film as The Harvest of Heaven, but dog-oriented dramas are very popular with the public because they are an important vector of emotions.

Adapted from a true story, Hutch tells the story of a dog who accompanies his master on the station platform every day as he goes to and from work. When Parker (Richard Gere) doesn’t come home one evening, the dog tirelessly waits for him.

What do the audience think about this movie?

According to Cinephile92:Hachi or Hachiko is a very beautiful movie that tells a true story that happened in Japan in 1930. From the start of the film we are quickly attached to the dog as Richard Gere’s performance is superb! There are no real words to describe this little masterpiece, I literally shed a few tears for Hutch. A movie to watch and a little tip: take a box of tissues!

According to Oriva: “I don’t think I cry so much before the movie, I even hit “pause” 2-3 times to stop myself and take a breath. And knowing that it’s (taken from) a real story makes it all the more exciting.

According to Ariane M.: “A magnificent film depicting the relationship between a dog and his master, inspired by a true story. This movie is very well shot and very impressive. A must see.”

According to FaRem:The movie is a masterpiece, the story is just exciting, especially when you think it’s a true story. A definite must see for animal lovers and lovers of great stories. Prepare the tissues.”

According to cineccita: “A simple but terribly sad film. A real ball of emotions.

According to Copper: “It’s hard to resist this true story with a rather simplistic yet beautiful script. Lasse Hallström succeeds in showing the unbreakable bond between master and dog, without falling into a simple melodrama, as Telerama thinks in its review and to which I subscribe. That kind of difference between a 2.2 and a 4.3 score between critics and viewers should make them reconsider their copies.
