A 25-member commission will choose Brazil’s representative at the 2023 Oscars

The Brazilian Film Academy has announced the committee members who will choose the Brazilian representative for the 2023 Oscars. The selected title will be entered in the Best International Film category and will seek to qualify among the five finalists of the US Academy Awards.

The commission has 25 professionals from the national audiovisual market, divided between 12 directors, 4 producers, 3 interpreters, 1 documentary maker, 1 curator, 1 event producer, 1 executive, 1 researcher and 1 critic.

The names selected were Aly Muritiba (director), André Pellenz (director), Ariadne Mazzetti (producer), Barbara Cariry (producer), Cavi Borges (director), Cibele Amaral (director), David França Mendes (director), Eduardo Ades (director) director), Guilherme Fiuza (producer), Hsu Chein (director), Irina Neves (producer), Jeferson De (director), João Daniel Tikhomiroff (director), João Federici (curator), José Geraldo Couto (critic), Juliana Sakae (documentary director), Marcelo Serrado (actor), Marcio Fraccaroli (director), Maria Ceiça (actress), Patricia Pillar (actress), Petra Costa (director), Renata Almeida (event producer), Talize Sayegh (director ), Waldemar Dalenogare Neto (researcher) and Zelito Viana (director).

The expected date for the selection of the film by the committee is September 9 to 11 days before the application deadline for the US Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.

The preliminary list of competitors for the first sieve of the category will be published on December 21st.

The official nominees will be revealed on January 24, 2023. And the winners will be announced on March 12, 2023, on stage at the Dolby Theater in Los Angeles.

The television recording of the ceremony remains the responsibility of the ABC network, but there are no confirmations of the channels responsible for the broadcast in Brazil. This year the images arrived via Globoplay and the TNT pay channel.
