Released direct-to-video, “Daphne & Velma” could serve as the first film in the franchise’s live-action chronological order.

That’s because the film is a prequel to not only the live-action film series, but also the entire “Scooby-Doo” franchise. However, the film only features the presence of Daphne and Velma; Scooby, Shaggy and Fred do not appear.

The first live-action adaptation of the animated series into a feature film, “Scooby-Doo” begins with the Mystery SA gang as adults, with plenty of time to solve mysteries together. So much so that their relationship is already frayed and they end up separating at the beginning of the plot.

However, two years later, they meet again when they are invited to solve a mystery at a tropical resort. Initially, everyone tries to solve the case on their own.

Directed by Raja Gosnell and written by James Gunn, “Scooby-Doo” has gained cult status throughout the year. In the cast, Freddie Prinze Jr. plays Fred, Sarah Michelle Gellar as Daphne, Linda Cardellini as Velma and Matthew Lillard as Shaggy.

A direct sequel to “Scooby-Doo” (2002) and with the same cast as Mystery Inc., “Monsters on the Loose” also later achieved cult status. Raja Gosnell and James Gunn return to direct and write the screenplay, respectively.

In the plot, a masked villain uses a machine that creates living versions of the monster fantasies that Mystery Inc. has already solved.
