AlloCiné: For a while in Un Si Grand Soleil, Manu was in a relationship with Eva (Emma Colbert), Virgil’s (Fred Biancone) ex-great love. Can we talk about cheating on a friend?
Moses Santamaria : Yes, as I understand Moses. In life, we are not always in control of our feelings. Personally, I have a kind of morality: I have never touched my friend’s ex, it blocks me and the sister of the same friend.
But at the same time, if these two don’t love each other anymore, and if there are feelings and love and everything is going well, the other person knows that I’m not trying to steal his girlfriend. Manu’s relationship with Eva should be calm, long and stable, compared to his previous relationship.
Indeed, because the death of Elsa (Julie Boulanger) last year affected him so much…
Yes, it was hard. He endured something toxic because it was. And here it is comforting. Eva is calm, works with culture… both do very social work. We can have a certain vision of policing, but to me it’s a job, just like firefighters, where people have to deal with social hardship every day. School is also a place where we try to pick up parts of this social misery, even if they don’t always work out.
These two people are socially minded and love to help others, ultimately trying to do something for the city.
Manu finds it difficult to raise his daughter. How do you see this father-son relationship?
Manu has already had to accept Camille’s boyfriend (Léon Dahan-Lamorthe) because it’s his first love affair and his first time, and I think it’s always harder for a father to leave his daughter because he might be acting cocky. He struggles to find stability with his daughter, and while he tries to find her, she eventually leaves. He followed his girlfriend to Korea.
And finally, there is Manu A character in constant evolution for four years. He goes through quasi-initiatory stages: he had this relationship with Elsa, he dies, he experiences the loss of a loved one, then his daughter flies away. He has to accept that, we realize that for Manu, who is a bit of an alpha male in the series, it’s the women who make him stronger.
We also saw that he now had a much more mature relationship with his ex-wife Laetitia (Shirley Busquet).
Peace is friends… you have to grow up to accept this, you have to be an adult. How many people drift apart and go to war for years, or never reconcile? I know some people around, there has been a war for twenty years. After my first breakup, I couldn’t make friends with an interested person (laughs).
Manu still has a lot of love for his ex-wife, always had for his daughter Elsa, Eva… and at work he is surrounded by men and has real leadership. It has several aspects: The shell he shows and the sensitivity he offers more to the fairer sex and also to his friend Alex, who he has to look up to when he’s crazy, because in the end it’s Alex who’s cracking up.
Just when Alex came face to face with Gaele (Helen Dagg) again during the infiltration mission and kissed her, she hid it from her friend. Do you think Manu could have guessed after all that he still felt for his ex?
He felt that something was wrong. But he cannot be blamed because he did the same thing. Elsa didn’t tell anyone, not even her friend, that she hid me. So he can’t blame Alex for what he did. On also realizes that Manu is getting less angry lately. It’s growing and that’s the main thing.
This is what I tell my classmates: sometimes, in everyday life, you have to be careful not to forget the evolution of a character. We haven’t played in the same way for four years, it’s impossible. In life we are constantly changing. The person you were two years ago is not the same today. And that, we have to integrate it into our characters.
To do this job, you need to have knowledge of people, in any case, a desire to know, and above all, understanding and tolerance. Tell yourself that I know the path that this person is taking, because I, myself, are aspects of myself that could go down that path. We are made up of many different aspects and depending on our sensibilities, we perceive different realities.
That’s what I find absolutely fascinating about playing the character. And for that it is important to live passionately out of the game Doing lots of different jobs, meeting lots of people from different backgrounds, Experience everything to the fullest even if it means burning yourself sometimes to better understand the mechanisms. That’s why when you’re reading a script, you might instinctively hit on the right pattern.
I’m so glad I didn’t start acting when I was fifteen, because I find that you get a lot of depth and richness in exploiting characters over the years. Otherwise, it’s pretty smooth. I started doing it I took drama lessons in Paris quite late, I was 26-27, and I was doing theater in the metro and doing slam because I was a bit bored.
Today I am 43 years old and I have absorbed a lot of life experience like a sponge, but you have to protect yourself. I’m much more established than I was in my 30s, but we have to protect ourselves.
Can you tell us more about the story you’re currently shooting for Un Si Grand Soleil?
There is a character who will leave the series. Manu investigates a warehouse theft gone wrong. In this warehouse, there were significant consequences, whether intentional or involuntary killings, and Manu is there to find who did it. While, at the same time, DFrom a personal point of view, it is about the departure of the daughter.
What are your next projects with Un Si Grand Soleil?
I acted in season 2 of the TV series Le Code directed by Bénédicte Delmas and in a short film by France TV Studio. And I will start with the TV movie I was born at 17, adapted from the book by Thierry Beccaro. It was a good year for me.
