It’s a game of musical chairs! Despite James Gunn announcing that Batman 2 has been pushed back another year — from its scheduled release date of September 30, 2026 to September 29, 2027 — Warner Bros. Alejandro Gonzalez Iñárritu.
The Oscar-winning director’s new take on The Revenant and Birdman, starring Tom Cruise, Sandra Bullock (Anatomy of the Fall), Riz Ahmed, John Goodman and Jesse Plemons, hits theaters on September 30, 2026.
Tom Cruise, Savior
We still don’t know the exact plot details, but we do know that the film will follow the most powerful man in the world. The latter embarks on a frantic mission to prove that he is indeed the savior of mankind, before the catastrophe he causes destroys the world.
A pitch that seems tailor-made for Tom Cruise, the on-screen king of action movies and savior of the world. And that’s what makes the project interesting. Because it’s reminiscent of what Birdman, already signed by Iñárritu, was for Michael Keaton by interrogating superheroes in cinema and roles that stick a little too tightly to the skin of actors. Will this feature film offer Tom Cruise the opportunity for a big meta number where his and his character’s personalities merge?
Meanwhile, the second installment of Mission Impossible: Dead Reckoning is expected to hit our theaters on May 21, 2025. This adventure could be Tom Cruise’s last appearance as Ethan Hunt.
