The emergency program delivers 40 housing units, offering dignity to flood victims.
Last Monday (30th), the government of Rio Grande do Sul delivered 40 temporary housing modules in Arroio do Meio, marking the deactivation of the municipality’s last collective shelter. These homes represent an emergency response for families affected by the recent floods and are part of the programme The house is yours – Calamity.
The units measure 27 m² and include a bedroom, kitchen, bathroom, furniture and appliances, ensuring comfort and functionality. With an investment of R$67 million, 500 units of this model will be implemented in the state, while 332 have already been delivered in seven municipalities, including Encantado and Rio Pardo.
In addition to temporary housing, the program allocates R$58.7 million for the construction of 422 permanent homes in the affected areas. Secretary Carlos Gomes highlighted the importance of quick and effective solutions to meet the needs of communities, highlighting the sustainability of the modules, which can be reused in future emergencies.
The measure integrates the Plan of the Rio Grandewhich coordinates reconstruction and climate resilience actions in the State, in addition to the State Plan for social housing, guaranteeing continuous support in disaster situations.
