Cynthia Erivowhich interprets Elphaba in the film adaptation of Wickedconfirmed that the musical’s sequel will feature two new songs. The actress revealed in an interview with the podcast Awards Circuitfrom the Varietywho worked alongside the musical’s original composer, Stephen Schwartzto create one of these songs.

“I collaborated on one of the new songs, and it is very special to me,” Erivo said.When we recorded it, the whole crew was in tears. I hope the audience is prepared — it’s a song that speaks directly to the heart of who Elphaba is.”

The actress also highlighted the emotional depth of the song: “I don’t know if you’re ready. I love this song and I remember that, on the day of filming, everyone was crying. I don’t know if it was because they were emotional that day or if it was because of the impact of the music. I feel like it’s something very special.”

Erivo preferred not to reveal the title of the song, but commented: “I have a feeling that even the title will be emotional.”She also confirmed that the sequel will feature a new song for Glinda, performed by Ariana Grande.

A new chapter in Wicked

Erivo explained that the sequel delves deeper into the consequences of the characters’ choices. “The story is richer, the stakes are higher. It’s not just a sequel; It’s a transformation,” he stated. The actress also defended the decision to split the musical into two films, explaining that this allows for more exploration of the relationship between Elphaba and Glinda.

In an interview with EntertainmentWeeklythe director Jon Chu complemented Erivo’s vision, highlighting that the second part balances light moments with a maturity achieved by the development of the first part. “There’s a lot of fun in the film, but there’s also a nuance that we allowed ourselves to explore in the sequel,” Chu said.

In addition to Wicked: For Goodwhich hits theaters in November 2025, Cynthia Erivo said she is working on her debut album, due out next year. “The album has already been written, it’s ready. It’s an eclectic mix, but it reflects my voice. I used my voice as an instrument in several layers, with touches of soul, country and pop,” explained.
