The year is off to a flying start for Max subscribers, with several new releases arriving in the catalogue, including The Whale (with Brendan Fraser), Blue Beetle (a superhero film) and In Troubled Waters 2, which continued in Supergirl mode. The first part was released in 2018 and was worn by Jason Statham.

In this second opus, the audience is plunged into ever deeper waters. Statham’s character and his team of explorers set out to explore the depths of the ocean. Their journey turns into disaster when an illegal mining operation threatens their mission – and their lives. With huge megalodons and ruthless bandits, they must escape their terrifying predators and always stay one step ahead of them in a terrifying race against time.

Always bigger, always bigger

Those are the words of In Very Troubled Waters, which sees Statham face off against a new, even more ferocious foe that some scientists believe actually exists somewhere in our oceans: the Alpha Megalodon. And while we’ve already seen the British actor hit hard with Selachimorphs, it’s still pretty impressive to see him take on a creature several times his size.

And that’s one of the only reasons why this blockbuster is worth seeing. If it did not shine at the box office in 2023, and if the audience quickly placed it in the “regret” category with its rating of 2 out of 5, some still emphasized the entertaining nature of the film, which is “incredible and disproportionate” (Guzze). And its opening scene is proof:

For In Very Troubled Waters, the production of course created a megalodon, a giant great white shark measuring over 20 meters with gray skin covered in scars (a testament to its many battles).

He also took into account the prehistoric nature of the creatures by designing his own predators from tens of millions of years ago: snappers (strong short-legged predators with sharp teeth and insatiable appetites) and mega octopuses (also called kraken). .

In other words, if you want your sea monster fix and aren’t afraid to discover what might be lurking in the water, go check out this movie, available today on Max.
