Why will the 2025 carnival be in March?

The dates are defined according to the Catholic calendar, starting from the date which will be Easter, to the change of seasons and also to the lunar calendar.

The Catholic Church has established that Easter is always celebrated on the first Sunday after the equinox, that is, when day and night have exactly the same duration: 12 hours.

Every year, the equinox falls on March 20th. In the Southern Hemisphere, where we are located, it is known as the autumnal equinox, and in the Northern Hemisphere, the spring equinox.

A week before Easter, the Catholic Church celebrates Palm Sunday, beginning Holy Week. And 40 days before is Carnival Tuesday. This means that Carnival is always celebrated 47 days before Easter.
