After 39 years of comedy, Frank DuBosky is changing register! The actor presented his third work this Wednesday, January 1: Jurassic Bear.
A black comedy with a hint of thriller that follows Michelle (Dubosky) and Cathy (Laur Kalam), a couple worn down by time and financial difficulties. But one day, while trying to avoid a bear on the road, Michelle crashes into a car and kills two of its passengers. Two deaths and two million second-hand records in the safe: obviously, it makes you want to talk again…
The filmmaker shares the bill with Laure Callam, Benoit Poelvorde, Josephine de Meo and Kim Higuelin.
In true Fargo tradition, this featurette is a turning point in the career of the actor, who confides to us that he wanted to have fun:
“As an actor, I did a lot of shoots to get love, I tried to be loved. I suddenly said to myself: maybe at some point I should love a little too, do what I want and be honest, I have. I’ve always been honest in my approach, but I want to be even more so, that’s why I waited so long.
So, was this registry change successful? What do early viewers think of Un Ours dans le Jura?
With 147 reviews and 400 ratings, Frank Dobosky’s black comedy has an average audience rating of 3.8 out of 5. A very good rating follows his first work, Everyone Standing, with a rating of 3.9 out of 5.
What do viewers think?
According to Imparfaite99 (5 out of 5): “A very pleasant surprise! The dark humor is very well balanced and the cast is incredible. Frank Dubosk took the risk to fool us all and… it works! This film is both surprising and funny and the suspense is entirely thanks to this well-crafted screenplay.“
According to Senga2104 (5 out of 5): “A great story that starts from the beginning and where humor and emotion are interwoven with small touches. This unexpected film keeps us in suspense throughout. A real crazy country western. Benoit Poelvorde is a delight as the gendarme with a big heart.“
According to Muriel F. (4 of 5):Frank Dubosky improves his creativity throughout his films. Bravo to him for his performance in this comedy-thriller, which places him in front of and behind the camera, surrounded by an equally excellent cast. The subject matter is ridiculously well felt and with unusual lines in a genre that we wish we could see more of for our entertainment. To have!“
According to Bernard Coric (4 of 5): “This black comedy, which skillfully mixes humor and thriller, is very successful in terms of staging. Frank Dubosk did it very well with a very well cast cast.
We are very happy to follow this comedy with its original, action-packed and ultimately well-structured script, like the Cohen brothers. This film also highlights the beautiful Jurassic winter landscapes that serve as the backdrop for this comedy..”
According to Yves S. (4 of 5):A pleasant surprise in the comic brutality genre. Starring Benoit Poelvorde as a completely overworked gendarmerie captain and a divorced father suffering from the behavior of his immature daughter.
And Dubosky and Lorre Kalam as greedy peasants. Everything is taken to the extreme for our great pleasure. We are having a great time.”
According to Capirex (3.5 out of 5): “A very interesting film by Frank Dubosky, who skillfully and successfully succeeds in criminal fiction, which does not lack black humor! I was surprised by the conclusion of the movie, but on reflection it ended quite cleverly with this parable!“
Pierre E. (2.5 out of 5):The great trailer and pretty cute casting drew me in, and I was looking forward to watching this movie, but unfortunately, I came away a little disappointed. Not because of the very good acting or production, but definitely because of the accumulation of improbable situations that end up being a bit boring..”
According to Arno (1.5 out of 5): “Frank Dubosky’s great achievement is unfortunately marred by his not-so-credible screenplay. It’s a shame because it was going well visually and with the main story.“
According to Lola L (0.5 out of 5): “The Jurassic Bear is a work that struggles to climb beyond the banal. Despite its potential, it suffers from a distinct lack of direction and a storyline that loses its way. A disappointment for those hoping for a fascinating adventure or a poignant reflection on the coexistence of man and nature..”
