Items were stolen from a house in Ribeirão Preto, inland from São Paulo; three suspects were arrested
The civil police are investigating a million-dollar robbery in a house in Ribeirão Preto, in the hinterland of São Paulo, which occurred on the 31st. The criminals broke into the house of a lawyer, where they took away 100,000 dollars in cash and 4 millions of reais in jewels. Three people have been arrested so far.

The case occurred on New Year’s Eve, in a residence in the Alto da Boa Vista neighborhood. In just 8 minutes the criminals managed to break into the room, capture the bricklayers who were working on a project on the property and take the suitcase with their personal effects from a wardrobe.

How the robbery happened
According to EPTV, affiliated with the Globo network, witnesses told the Civil Police that two armed men arrived at the house and captured the employees working on the construction site. The owners were traveling that day.
The pair entered the property and went to the cupboard, where they broke down the door and took the suitcase with the money and jewellery. The entire action lasted about 8 minutes, according to the deputy in charge of the case, Rodolfo Latif Sebba.
“They entered, remained inside the residence for 8 minutes, looking for a suitcase full of jewels and a bag of money, with 100 thousand dollars inside,” he underlined.

The cameras were off
The structure is equipped with surveillance cameras, but at the time of the crime the equipment was turned off. The suspicion is that the local internet network was turned off and the cameras stopped working. But this is still raised by the Civil Police.

Who was arrested?
In total, three people have been arrested up to Friday 3.
Giovanni Paolo Maringoli de Lima: an entrepreneur from a pharmacy chain in Serrana who ran for councilor in the last municipal elections.
According to the broadcaster, the police stressed that the vehicle used for the robbery was the one that led the authorities to him. The monitoring cameras would have filmed the Honda CRV near the house where the crime occurred and from there the investigators followed the traces left by the car, which appears to be owned by João Paulo.
He was arrested on Thursday 2nd, inside the vehicle with a suitcase containing weapons, jewels and dollars. “When he was taken to the Flagrant Center, he mentioned what was inside the suitcase and opened it, where it was possible to view the items, the money and make a connection with the events that occurred on the 31st. Three revolvers were found, a .38 and two 22 caliber calibers, perhaps the same ones used in the robbery”, explained the captain of the Military Police, André Alexandre Fávero.
According to the prime minister, approximately R$28,000 and US$45,000 were found, as well as weapons and jewelry. João Paulo’s defense has not been located. The space remains open for demonstrations.

She was also arrested on Thursday, suspected of having helped the thieves in the robbery. According to the broadcaster, the police believe that she already knew another man allegedly involved in the robbery.
“It’s impossible for them to walk into a luxury residence and not be interested in any other item. This was inside information, so our goal is to try to understand who passed on this information and how they passed it on,” he said the delegate.
Her defense told the broadcaster that they are confident that Luzia is innocent and that this will be proven during the investigation.
Luan Rodrigues dos Santos
He was arrested on Friday, in Serrana. According to the authorities, he may have actively participated in the robbery, as he was recognized by one of the victims. Luan’s defense was also not located. The space remains open for demonstrations.

The police are working to find out who planned the action and what role each suspect had in the crime. It has not yet been ruled out that more people were involved in the robbery.
“The main suspects come from the city of Serrana. Now we aim to identify the traces of these people, where they went, how they went, because we need to recover these stolen objects,” says the delegate.
With the arrests, new statements will have to be collected, just as the seized cell phones will have to be subjected to forensic examination and contribute to clarifications. Only part of what was taken has been recovered and searches continue to try to locate the rest of the jewels and money.
A strong suspicion on the part of the Civil Police is that the receivers had already received the objects.

What the victim said
The lawyer, who preferred to remain anonymous, told the broadcaster that the dollars taken were legal and came from a property she sold. “That’s why I had the dollars. The jewels have belonged to the family for four generations. Pieces of very high sentimental value, belonging to a grandmother, great-grandmother, mother,” he explained.
In a statement, the Secretariat of Public Security (SSP) specified that a large part of the stolen goods have been located and seized and that investigations continue.
