The Substance was nominated to Golden Globe for Best Film (Comedy/Musical), Best Supporting Actress, Best Director, Best Screenplay and Best Actress (Comedy/Musical). The MUBI film only secured the award for Best Actress (Comedy/Musical), received by Demi Moore.

On The Substance

In the film directed by Coralie Fargeat, Demi Moore plays Elisabeth Sparkle, a former celebrity past her prime who is suddenly fired from her television show by the repulsive studio boss, Harvey (Dennis Quaid).

She is then drawn to the opportunity presented by a mysterious new drug: THE SUBSTANCE. All it takes is one injection and she is reborn—temporarily—as the stunning Sue, a young woman in her early twenties (Margaret Qualley).
