Director spoke about the historic achievement of the actress, who became the first Brazilian artist to win the award for Best Actress in a Drama Film
Walter Sallesdirector of I’m Still Herecelebrated the historic conquest of Fernanda Torres in the 82nd edition of Golden Globewhich took place last Sunday (5). According to the filmmaker, the award recognized the “soul of the film” when handing over the statuette for Best Actress in a Drama Film to the film’s protagonist.
“It was an explosion of joy because the Nanda It’s the soul of the film”he told Folha de S. Paulo. “Exactly that was awarded, the soul of the film, and at the same time the owner Eunice Paiva [personagem de Torres]wonderful, our holy protector. I think she was accompanying us there, as she told us Marcelo [Rubens Paiva] and Ana Lu Paiva [filhos de dona Eunice]. It was an incredible moment.”
Salles further revealed that, while seeing Fernanda Torres take the stage to receive the award, recalled the actress’s mother, Fernanda Montenegrowho was nominated in the same category 25 years ago for her work on Central Brazilalso directed by the filmmaker, and spoke about his daughter’s moving speech, dedicated to the matriarch:
“That speech Nanda improvised, I thought it was so beautiful. The other speeches were sometimes very written and hers had nothing, it came from within. What is the story of I’m Still Here?
Based on the book of the same name by Marcelo Rubens Paiva, I’m Still Hereis set in Rio de Janeiro, in the early 1970s, amid the military dictatorship, and tells the story of Eunicemother of five children, who becomes involved in an endless search for the truth after her husband, Rubensbe taken away by undercover police officers and disappear.
