Released in theaters on March 4, 2020, Papi-Sitter got off to a good start with 250,000 admissions, before seeing its demise hit by a health crisis and theater closures. Today, this family comedy is enjoying its second season at number one on Netflix!
Gerard Lanvin VS Olivier Marshall!
Let us remind you that Papi-Sitter is directed by Philippe Gillard, who already collaborated with the duo Gerard Lanvin-Olivier Marshall on Le Fils à Jo in 2010. This time, two rugged actors play popes with completely opposite personalities.
The story first introduces us to Frank and Karine, played by Jean-Francois Cayre and Anne Giroux. The latter are obliged to entrust their daughter Camille, who is supposedly studying for a bachelor’s degree, to her grandfather Andre (Lanvin), a retired policeman who is extremely psychotic.
Things get worse when a second grandfather, Teddy (Marshall), a former manager of less-frequented nightclubs, suddenly shows up! Coexistence between the grandfathers is more difficult, and Camille will take advantage of their quarrel and live the way she decided…
If the comedy is especially good for the really funny historians of the Lanvin-Marshall tandem who fuss over it, Papi-Sitter also reveals a surprising young actress, Camille Aguilar. The latter stands out between these two sacred monsters of French cinema and manages to hold its own!
friends for life
Fun fact: Philippe Gillard was thinking of a babysitter while filming Fils à Jo in 2010, when he shared a house with Gerard Lanvin and Olivier Marshall. The 3 artists were living a bohemian life when they were joined by the filmmaker’s father, a former gendarmerie captain who lived in barracks throughout his career…
Olivier Marshall and Gerard Lanvin
“It’s full of values, but also quite psychedelic, especially the very precise details, the knife on the right, the fork on the left, the pointed knives in the dishwasher and the beds on the square. and dust between the radiator fins. The advantage of this severity of behavior is that in the eyes of those who do not like him, he becomes comical.Philip Gillard recalls.
In this way, the director was able to inject a good dose of real life into his script and this authenticity can be seen on screen, enhanced by the talents of the 3 main actors, Gerard Lanvin, Oliver Marshall and Camille Aguilar.
And finally, we have to admit that Papi-Sitter takes us on a wonderful journey in the middle of magnificent landscapes, in the Landes. A place that former rugby player Philippe Gillard knows well, as he often met teams from this department when he played for Racing Club de France. If you haven’t seen Grandpa-Sitter yet, it’s time to tune in to Netflix for a treat.
