After investing more than R$25,000 and registering a declaration, Ariadna is cut by Globo from a special documentary on Big Brother Brazil
First transgender woman to participate in Big Brother Brazil, Arianna Arantes responded to Globo’s call to give his testimony to BBB: The Documentary – More Than a Espiada, which premiered last Tuesday (7) in prime time. In October last year, he spent more than R$25,000 out of pocket to travel from Australia [onde vive atualmente] in Brazil and record his participation in the series. The episode he appeared in was supposed to air everywhere (8). But to her surprise and disappointment, she was notified by a network producer that she had been cut from the documentary and would no longer appear. To make matters worse, no justification was provided.
“I still can’t get out of bed, shower or eat. I’m trying to understand what happened“, he lamented in an exclusive telephone conversation with With you!. “I’m frustrated. My expectation was to be heard by the Globo audience after so many years, and at the time I participated in BBB I couldn’t. I’m devastated“, he added crying.
According to the press release released by Globo on January 3, Ariadna would appear in the second episode of the series, which aired yesterday. Look what the press release says: “In the second episode, A Seleção, the focus is on diversity and inclusion, with the testimonies of Ariadna Arantes (BBB 11), the first trans woman to participate in the reality show, as well as Vanessa (BBB 14) e Giuliana Alves (BBB 13), which address the racial and social issues discussed in the program. Sabrina Satowhich returns in this episode, and Gil do Vigor (BBB 21) also share their stories.“
But that’s not what we saw. And Ariadna, who now lives in Australia and is 12 hours away in our time zone, woke up extra early this Thursday so she could attend the live screening, but was disappointed when she realized she wouldn’t be appearing in the production .
“First, a producer called me on WhatsApp to tell me that my episode wouldn’t be airing yesterday. After the episode aired, the same producer told me that my participation had been canceled and that I had been cut. It’s so sad, I feel humiliated once again“, he vented.
“My friends even advised me not to speak openly for fear of closing the doors with Globo. But what are these doors that are never open for me? I made a long journey, I invested a lot to be able to participate in this production. I knew there was no compensation, but I saw the documentary as a great opportunity to say things that I couldn’t say at the time.“he continued.
According to her, the cut was not triggered by any comments she made during the recordings. The clearest proof is his appearance on Fantástico last Sunday (5), when the electronic magazine showed behind the scenes of the production’s premiere.
“January is Trans Visibility Month. It would be very important and symbolic for me to be in this documentary. I see that once again they are trying to erase me or make me invisible. And I don’t understand why. Our recording was light, fun, there were no criticisms from me against anyone. I talked about the importance of being the first transsexual woman in the history of the Brazilian version and also about the prejudices I experienced, but in our conversation we went far beyond this” he mused.
During our conversation, Ariadna’s voice choked several times and she tried to control her emotions. But she is still looking for answers from Globo to understand why they cut her participation. “One manufacturer said they would try to reimburse some of my costs. But I’m not looking for money, you know? I just wanted them to respect me. Not even a justification was given for excluding me. Once again am I left without answers and am forced to remain silent?” he wondered.
Ariadna said that she has always been very grateful to Globo for having given her space in two of its main reality shows (BBB and No Limite), but that at the moment the feeling of frustration prevails for having created expectations about her participation. “I left the country I live in to respond to an invitation with kindness. And in the end, I was the only one to lose in this story“he complained.
The column turned to Globo to understand why Ariadna was removed from the episode that would have aired yesterday, but until the publication of this text we had no response. We will update if the broadcaster responds.
