The most recent feature film by Magnus von Horn (Sweat), The Needle Girlarrives exclusively on MUBI on January 24, 2025. On the same date, the streaming platform also makes the director’s debut film available, The Here After.
The Needle Girlco-written by LineLangebek Knudsen and Magnus von Hornmade its world debut in the Competition of Cannes Film Festival 2024. It stars Vic Carmen Sonne (Neon Heart, Godland), Trine Dyrholm (The Community, Queen of Hearts,Mary and George), Besir Zeciri (Flesh and Blood) and Joachim Fjelstrup (Itsi Bitsi).

Unemployed, abandoned and pregnant, she is taken in by the charismatic Dagmar, who invites her to help her run a clandestine adoption agency for unwanted children. The two develop an unexpected bond, until a sudden discovery changes everything.

About the director
Magnus von Horn is a graduate of the Polish National Film School in Lodz, where he is currently also a professor. With his short films, he was internationally recognized as a promising director at festivals such as Sundance and Locarno.
The filmmaker finds it inspiring to work in different languages: his first feature film, The Here Afterwas in Swedish and premiered at Directors’ Fortnight in Cannes 2015; also won him the Swedish prize Guldbaggen for best director and best film. His second feature, Sweatwas in Polish and was part of the official selection of Cannes in 2020.
