The Italian tennis player will give his testimony on 16 and 17 April
The Italian tennis player Jannik Sinner, current number 1 in the world, will testify before the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) on the positive tests for the anabolic steroid clostebol.
The international court, based in Lausanne, Switzerland, has scheduled the participation of the multiple Tyrolean champion for 16 and 17 April. The trial, however, will take place behind closed doors to the public.
Sinner tested positive twice but was spared a more severe suspension after proving he had accidentally ingested the substance through a cream used by one of his masseuses to treat a bruise on her hands.
The World Anti-Doping Agency (Wada), however, has appealed against the tennis player’s acquittal, announced by an independent tribunal activated by the International Tennis Integrity Agency (Itia), and is still asking for a sentence of up to two years for the tennis player.
The athlete then said that he was “very surprised and disappointed” by Wada’s provision, as well as underlining that he is convinced that he will be declared innocent. He also recently added that it was difficult to live with the agency’s appeal looming over him. .
