M6 alert: Is this Jamie Foxx detective series worth it?

This Saturday, January 11, from 9.10pm, M6 will air the first three episodes of Alert, the new detective series created by John Eisendrath and Jamie Foxx.

Six years after the sudden disappearance of their son, Jason Grant, who works in private security, and Nikki Batista, a police investigator, are amicably separated and try to resume as normal a life as possible.

Nick is now the Chief of the Philadelphia Police Department’s Missing Persons Unit and has a serious relationship with Mike (Ryan Broussard), his co-worker.

In turn, Jason hides from his new partner, June (Bre Blair), that he is not yet ready to have a second child. However, the couple’s everyday life is turned upside down when Jason takes a life-affirming photo of their missing boy. is he in the picture And what happened to him in the last six years? That’s what Nick and Jason will try to understand.

Classic detective series

On American television, it is common to see series about police departments that specialize in searching for missing persons. And if we were hoping that the Alert, the new M6 series, would stand out from its siblings, unfortunately it doesn’t.

This ultimately classic piece of fiction, in which each episode follows a new case, is sorely lacking in credibility, especially with the disappearances and especially reappearances of Kitty, Nick and Jason’s son.

How can we explain that after 6 years of absence, the police are not the first to question the teenager? Moreover, he allows her to return to the family as if nothing happened? And that’s not all: no one seems to be asking the question of confirming the young man’s identity by DNA analysis.

Despite this somewhat distant theme, we can’t help but know the end of the story and Keith’s true identity. It is a pity that the screenwriters, who seem to have mastered the codes of the genre, did not focus on this mystery and did not offer an investigation of the disappearance, which is very lacking in suspense, issues and twists.

An encouraging actor

Despite these flaws, Alert remains a very enjoyable detective series to watch, especially thanks to its two main characters. The alchemy between Scott Caan, who played Danny “Dano” Williams 5-0 in Hawaii, and Dania Ramirez, who we saw in Devious Maid, is very present.

The relationship between Nick and Jason is very innovative for this type of series. The former spouses remained friends, continue to stand shoulder to shoulder and work together, and even managed to find love again, without any uncertainty.

In short, Alert is a detective series that is probably not going to revolutionize the procedural genre, but it still manages to captivate us and make us continue to watch episodes to discover the mystery surrounding Keith’s character.
