In a phone call with Biden, Meloni regrets the fires in Los Angeles

The Italian Prime Minister, Giorgia Meloni, spoke by telephone this Saturday (11) with the President of the United States, Joe Biden, to express her solidarity with the devastation caused by the forest fires in California.

The flames have already killed at least 10 people and destroyed more than 10,000 buildings, including thousands of homes, while the damage caused by the fire is estimated at around 150 billion dollars. The Democratic president, in turn, described the situation as a “war scenario”.

“Meloni spoke by telephone with Biden to express, first of all, her feelings of solidarity and those of the Italian government for the terrible devastation caused by the forest fires in California”, reads the note released by Palazzo Chigi.

The head of the European government took the opportunity to thank the Democrat, who will leave the White House in less than 10 days.

“Meloni expressed profound gratitude and appreciation for the extraordinary cooperation maintained within the framework of the exceptional bilateral relations and on all issues of international politics, as also confirmed in the context of the Italian presidency of the G7”, continues the statement.

Biden, in turn, thanked the prime minister for Italy’s leadership role in the G7, the North Atlantic Treaty Organization and the European Union. The Democrat also underlined the support provided by Rome to the Ukrainian population.

The American president was supposed to travel to Italy, but had to cancel his European tour due to the devastating fires in Los Angeles. .
