The goal is to end diversity and inclusion programs, media reports say

The company cited changes in the “legal and policy landscape” in the United States

After announcing the closure of its fact-checking program, Meta also ended its diversity and inclusion programs.

According to an internal memo, cited by the American press, the company recognized that “the legal and political landscape for diversity, equity and inclusion efforts in the United States is changing.”

The memo, signed by Janelle Gale, Meta’s vice president of human resources, adds that some programs, such as the so-called “Diverse Slate Approach,” are no longer “current.”

The company’s director of diversity, Maxine Williams, will change roles within Meta due to the new guidelines.

The lack of racial and gender diversity in Silicon Valley has long been a topic of discussion. One study found that Meta doubled the number of Black and Hispanic employees in the United States through diversity programs.

Mark Zuckerberg’s company, however, is only the latest in a series of companies that have eliminated minority protection policies, after McDonald’s, Walmart, Ford and Lowe’s.

The decision came shortly after Meta decided to significantly scale back its content moderation policies, including ending its fact-checking program.

The American press claims that the measure could be linked to the new administration of Republican Donald Trump.
