Globo overcomes the problems with the CBF and confirms the unprecedented broadcast of the championship

Negotiations between the broadcaster and the institution lasted weeks, but on Tuesday president Ednaldo Rodrigues announced an agreement

The Copa do Nordeste has a new home: the Premiere. Grupo Globo overcame the shenanigans and reached a deal to broadcast the traditional regional competition on the company’s pay-per-view channels. In this sense, the broadcaster has acquired all the rights to the tournament from the group stage onwards, i.e. from next week.

It is worth noting that the broadcaster has never previously broadcast the Copa do Nordeste and the deal will serve as a “test” to further boost the broadcaster’s numbers. The president of CBF, Ednaldo Rodrigues, confirmed the contract with the company during the draw ceremony for groups A and B of the competition.

Popularly known as Nordestão, the regional tournament will begin the week of January 22. The final clashes – home and away – are scheduled for September 3 and 7.

Cheating with the CBF

Grupo Globo had reached an agreement with ‘Meu Futebol’ to broadcast the Copa do Nordeste in December 2024. Meanwhile, ‘Trinta Sports’, the producer responsible for the images of the tournament, has sublicensed the exhibition rights to Premiere, and CBF intervened.

Football’s top governing body questioned the legitimacy of the process and the tournament was left without broadcast in the preliminary rounds. Negotiations lasted for weeks until the final agreement was reached.
