Camelot: How were the three famous notes in the credits born?

Every episode of the Camelot series begins with the sound of these three trumpets, as if blown by a medieval herald at a castle gate. But how did Alexandre Astier come up with the idea to use this musical theme with his Knights of the Round Table adventure in 2005?

While we were able to speak with him last June as part of the La Baule film and film music festival, the creator of Camelot told us how he came up with the credits:

“this is the call”Alexandre Astier told us, before explaining the television context at the time and the difficulty of creating a program as original and atypical as Camelot in the midst of the PAF:

“In the kind of war that broadcasts were doing when there were a million at once, with the weather or the news ending, I was interested in calling people first. on their TV. (…) It’s a way to say “it is now!” quite loudly.

According to Astier, the purpose of these three trumpets was not only to call the audience to the television, but also to completely break the tone with previous programs:

“I think this signal was made to immerse people in another world. Very short, because I only had 4 minutes, but there was such a side: now it’s about us! We’re going to talk. Like home, it doesn’t look like it used to, it’s not something more.’ We’re going to do a little bit of Camelot on TV, and it starts like this, with a very distinct thing.

Three very distinct sounds, very easy to recognize and very bright, somewhat like the three knocks used in the theater to silence when a play is about to begin. A comparison that Alexander Astier seems to argue for:
