Currently number 17 in the WTA rankings, Beatriz Haddad Maia beat the Russian Erika Andreeva (86th) by 2 sets to 0 (partials of 6/2, 6/3) in the early hours of this Thursday 16th, in the second round of the women’s draw Australian Openthe first Grand Slam of the year.
Bia Haddad needed 1h21min to overcome the Russian tennis player and advance to the third round of the competition. This was the Brazilian’s third win in three matches against Andreeva.
With this result Bia Haddad advances to the third round of the tournament and equals her best record in the Australian Slam, achieved last year. The Brazilian’s opponent in the next phase will be the winner of the duel between the British Katie Boulter (seeded 22nd) and the Russian Veronika Kudermetova, who will face each other this Thursday.
