30 years after its theatrical release, Se7en is back in theaters! The iconic film, which marks the first collaboration between David Fincher and Brad Pitt, who would later reunite for Fight Club and The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, opens in select IMAX-equipped theaters on Sunday, January 22.
Released in 1995, this dark and haunting masterpiece, rated 4.5 out of 5 stars by audiences, named David Fincher one of the most influential directors of his generation. With its oppressive atmosphere, complex characters and an unforgettable ending that still haunts audiences decades later, Se7en redefined the codes of the psychological thriller and is now one of the must-sees. The film has had a huge impact on filmmakers who cite it as a model.
Starring Brad Pitt, Morgan Freeman, Gwyneth Paltrow and Kevin Spacey, the film follows Inspector Somerset, an elderly policeman who meets an unusual criminal seven days before he retires. John Doe, as the self-proclaimed killer, has decided to cleanse society of the evils that consume it by committing seven murders based on the seven deadly sins: greed, gluttony, sloth, pride, lust, envy, and anger.

The release of the feature film is an opportunity to rediscover this masterpiece on the big screen. And for those who want to finally know what’s inside the box at the end of the movie, David Fincher recently revealed its contents to Entertainment Weekly.
“I think it was 7 or 8 kilos of bullets”reveals the American film director. “We researched Gwyneth Paltrow’s Body Mass Index to estimate her head weight. We put the wig in the box. There was a bullet and the wig was a little bloody.
If I remember correctly, Morgan opened 16 or 17 boxes for this scene. But as I always say, you don’t need to see what’s in the box if you have Morgan Freeman.
The 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray version of Se7en, David Fincher’s great classic, goes on sale in France this Wednesday, January 8th. Hence comes an unprecedented announcement three decades after the film’s release.
