Find out which were the best-selling cars on the German market last year, as well as the strongest brands and groups
The German automotive market saw a slight decline in 2024, ending the year with 2.82 million units (-1%). The best-selling car continues to be the Volkswagen Golf, which totaled 100,217 registrations (+23%).
The Polo, however, the best-selling Volkswagen in Brazil, is only in 9th place in Germany with 36,758 units (+7%). The data was released by the automotive consultant Filippo Munozby Jato Dynamics, on his Instagram profile.
Four of the five best-selling cars in Germany belong to the Volkswagen brand: the Tiguan came third and the Passat fifth. And the five bestsellers belong to the VW group, as the Skoda Octavia, produced in the subsidiary in the Czech Republic, took 4th place.
The biggest growth in the top 10 was that of Opel Astra, which finished in sixth place with 47,730 licenses (+90%). On the other hand, the only model included in the top 10 is also from Opel, the Corsa, with 43,469 units (-19%).
Opel is one of the brands of Stellantis, which came second among the automotive groups with 349,418 sales (+4%). The German market is largely dominated by the VW Group, which sold 1,136,393 cars (+3%) and now holds a 40.3% share. Mercedes is the third group with 271,283 cars (-8%).
Among brands, Volkswagen leads with 536,917 sales (-3%), followed by Mercedes with 258,819 units (-7%) and BMW with 233,881 (same level as last year). Discover the 10 best-selling cars in Germany in 2024 below.
