Brazilian and German fell into the double seed 2, reversing
In a high-level match, Bia Haddad Maia and Germany’s Laura Siegemund were eliminated early Monday in the doubles round of 16 of the Australian Open, the first Grand Slam of the year.
The Brazilian and European couple fell to the second seed formed by the Canadian Gabriela Dabrowski and the New Zealander Erin Routtlife by 2 sets to 1 with scores of 6/7 (7/5) 6/3 6/4 after 2h29min on the Margaret court Court Arena, the second major arena at Melbourne Park.
Bia and Siegemund started behind with a break, saw their rivals lead 5-3, but with the Brazilian’s excellent responses they recovered, gave back the break and won in detail in the tie-break.
In the second set the rivals took more control of the return and the net and closed with an error from the German at the bottom after leading with a break from the start. In the third the rivals open the break, but Bia/Siegemund recover, drawing 3-3. In the end, great responses from rivals make the difference.
