The Mysterious Wisteria Project…

David Lynch’s Netflix project had been rumored for years before his death. In the November 2020 issue of Production Weekly (which publishes lists that aren’t always entirely accurate about upcoming shoots), a Lynch miniseries called “Wisteria” that we already talked about back in the day was described.

It was later revealed that this title was a code name given to the project by Netflix, and the project was also known as “Recorded Night”. According to the document, Lynch planned to write and direct 13 episodes of the series, along with Peter Deming, his cinematographer for Lost Highway and Mulholland Drive.

In November 2021, Peter Deming revealed in an interview that the project had been put on hold due to the COVID pandemic, but noted that he “He assumed that at some point he would come back to life“, teaches us Diversity.

In May 2024, Sabrina Sutherland, Lynch’s longtime producer, said during a Q&A.That there is always a chance“That Lynch is returning to the series, but he”Dedicated to his artwork and his music projects“.

An unforgettable first meeting

In his tribute, Ted Sarandos also recalls his first meeting with David Lynch, back when Netflix was primarily a mail-order DVD rental company. The executive then asked Lynch to keep the copies of his first film, Eraserhead, that were out of print.

We agreed on a major acquisition of Eraserhead and Netflix to release all of its visual shorts on DVD. Once that deal was done, David showed me around his house and his artwork. He then asked me if I would like to look at a rough cut of his next film. I thought he was talking about a few scenes– writes Sarandos.

He took me into his screening room and showed me a nearly three-hour cut of Mulholland Drive. I didn’t plan to stay there all day, but I was surprised to find myself in David Lynch’s house and his new movie, which had not yet been released, was on his screens. About two hours later I realized he was gone. I watched the movie and left.

However, it should be noted that David Lynch actually worked with Netflix. He made a short film called ‘What Did Jack Do?’, surreal as usual, and released in 2020. Lynch plays a cop who interrogates… a monkey murder case!
