Director James Cameron explained how the new film in the Avatar franchise will move away from previous formulas and focus on ‘brave choices’
Film that should hit cinemas around the world in December 2025, Avatar: Fire and Ash (the third in the successful franchise) may not be what the public “asked for,” according to the director, James Cameronwho also commanded the first two innings.
During an interview with Empire Magazine, Cameron spoke about expectations for the film in question, which features names like Zoë Saldaña (Neytiri), Sam Worthington (Jake Sully), Sigourney Weaver (Kiri), Stephen Lang (Colonel Miles Quaritch) and Kate Winslet (Ronald) in the cast. According to the filmmaker, the narrative will be more focused on “courageous choices” than formulas that worked previously.
“It’s a complicated thing. We might be getting high on our own stock here, and everyone watching [o novo filme] says, ‘Damn, this isn’t what I signed up for,'” he said. “But if you’re not making courageous choices, you’re wasting everyone’s time and money. This alone is not enough to create success, but it is necessary. You have to break the mold every time.”
We have some really clever action scenes. You can make your blood boil in this movie. But what excites me as an artist who recently turned 70 and has kind of done all this is not just the opportunity to do it again, but to reach a level of character and intrigue that you’ve never seen before in an Avatar film.
Finally, James Cameron revealed how the Avatar: Fire and Ash is in “good shape” and shouldn’t be delayed: “We’ve doubled the number of shots completed at this stage of the game than we had in film two [e] the films are approximately the same length. So that puts us well ahead of the curve, which is something I’ve never, frankly, experienced before.”
We’re getting to the point where we’re actually getting good at this.
