Film directed by Walter Salles received, in total, three award nominations
THE Academy announced this Thursday, 23, the nominees for the Oscar — and the Brazilians were included.
I’m Still Here— directed by Walter Salles and starring Fernanda Torres, Selton Mello and Fernanda Montenegro — was nominated to Oscar for Best International Film, Best Actress and Best Film.
Mello reacted to the nominations by publishing a photo alongside Torres and Salles on Instagram. In the caption, he wrote:
we made a movie
he was born victorious for a variety of reasons:
for remembering what can never be forgotten
for moving with an austere beauty
for filling movie theaters again
for taking our sensitivity to the world
for recovering our cultural self-esteem
for opening so many doors for others to come
for restoring the love for Brazilian cinema
for creating something emotionally powerful
for achieving the rare balance between aesthetics & ethics
for being sublime in its fair simplicity
many layers
our country needed this film
the whole world needed this movie

The ceremony of Oscar 2025 is scheduled to take place on March 2nd, Carnival Sunday, at the Dolby Theater, in Los Angeles, in the United States.

What is the story of I’m Still Here?
Based on the book of the same name by Marcelo Rubens Paiva, I’m Still Hereis set in Rio de Janeiro, in the early 1970s, amid the military dictatorship, and tells the story of Eunicemother of five children, who becomes involved in an endless search for the truth after her husband, Rubensbe taken away by undercover police officers and disappear.
In addition to Fernanda Torresthe film also features Fernanda Montenegro (The Invisible Life), Selton Mello (The Movie of My Life), Maeve Jinkings (Toll), Antonio Saboia (Private Destination), Humberto Carrão (Marighella) and Marjorie Estiano (Under pressure) in the cast. Watch the trailer:
