On the borders of the magical kingdom, a green ogre named Shrek took up residence in the middle of the swamp, in which he spent many years of peaceful days, and took good care to terrorize any import that would disturb his peace.
However, one day, he sees all kinds of magical creatures descending around his house. A wooden doll named Pinocchio, three brown bears, a wolf disguised as a grandmother, a little gingerbread man and, above all … a talking donkey. Hunted mercilessly by the cruel Lord Farkad, these enchanted characters seek refuge. Up-Ceur, in the company of a donkey, Shrek agrees to go and deliver the audience with a tyrannical suzerain.

A new chapter in the history of animation
At the dawn of the 2000s, while computers were drawing boards for new studios, the world of animation was still uncharted territory. Built by Pixar and the history of revolutionary toys, this new adventure with summary pictures also highlights the ambitions of new little ones.
DreamWorks, a very young studio that has already signed several excellent films in traditional animation and the first feature film in CGI – the very unfairly forgotten Formiz – is going to provoke a duel with Pixar in its own field by signing its first real commercial success.
Shrek, a parody that anticipates and completely recovers from Disney’s fairy tales, brings humor, originality and subversion that makes everyone short. Really funny, especially thanks to the cheap character of the donkey, the comic era of the green ogre also affords the luxury of transcending its status as a pastiche to offer the public a real, beautiful story.
DreamWorks Studios’ first commercial success
If the laughter is in order, the emotion is also there, and the new explosive recipe of DreamWorks (which they will not stop using to create other successful things), creates sparks. $484 million, a Cannes nomination and an Oscar later, Shrek has turned his fledgling studio into an animation flagship.
24 years later, the film’s visual effects (and even some valves) have undoubtedly aged significantly, but its story is still as powerful and its importance in the history of animation is undeniable. If you are looking for a good way to spend an unforgettable moment with your family, or (re)discover the classics of the genre, do not hesitate to go on an adventure with Shrek.
This movie is available on Amazon Prime Video platform.
