The organization of the Venice Film Festival has released this Tuesday (26) the list of 23 films that will compete for the Golden Lion at the 79th edition of the event, which will take place from 31 August to 10 September.

The list of competitors includes the previously announced “White Noise”, by Noah Baumbach, which will open the show, and five Italian films, including “Bone and All” and “L’Immensione”, starring respectively by Timothée Chalamet and Penelope Cruz. .

As usual, the Venice Film Festival has compiled a list of male-dominated competitors: there are 18 films directed by men and only five by women, such as “The Eternal Daughter”, a feature film by Joana Hogg and starring the award-winning Tilda Swinton .

Among the highlights of the selection are Andrew Dominik’s “Blonde”, which stars Ana de Armas in the role of Marilyn Monroe, and “Bardo”, a new feature by Oscar winner Alejandro Iñárritu.

The “Out of Competition” section, of the films not competing for the festival prizes, collects 25 productions, including “Nuclear”, by Oliver Stone, the series “Riget Exodus”, by Lars von Trier, and “Master Gardener”, by Paul Schrader, who will receive the Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement, and actress Catherine Deneuve.
