This is where it all begins: “Salome Asks Swan Questions” by Cyril Durrell

Allocine: You are one of the last actors to be integrated into Here It All Begins. How did you get to this project?

Cyril Durrell : in the classical scheme. I’ve already passed tests with the casting team who also care about Tomorrow Belongs to Us. In fact, I have friends who saw the ad for the Swan role and sent it to me. At first I didn’t really think it would fit, but I wrote it anyway. And so it happened.

We imagine there can be some trepidation when integrating such a large family as it all begins here. How was your arrival in the series?

To be honest, I went without much expectation. I was positively surprised. What’s really interesting about this series is that it has a bit of a Hogwarts side to it. There are many young people, there are also older actors who play teachers. Honestly, it put me in a bit of a Harry Potter vibe. I was happy. I felt like I was part of Gryffindor or Ravenclaw. It was super nice. And then everyone was very nice. The technical team and production make sure we feel super comfortable so we can bring out our best.

What attracted you to the role of Swans?

He has some kind of insurance. We will learn more about his past. He is someone who grew up in Japan, and it has already been very interesting. On a personal note, I had the opportunity to travel a bit. Not in Japan unfortunately, but I know that contact with several cultures also enriches the personality. That he is a photographer is a detail, but I was very interested in the photography of Swann’s character. I bought myself a Polaroid. In relation to cooking, these are certainly aspects that I found interesting.

Did you have any culinary training for the role?

Yes. There are referees on the set. As soon as there are gestures or concrete deeds, we support, we train well. People who are very square about it surround us. And there, as far as pastry goes, it was very technical. Every time we knew exactly what to do. I was very interested in this and wanted to cause a little trouble. This made me want to become even more interested in cooking. I also plan to take Japanese cooking courses in the future.

Swan and Salome (Aurelie Pons) became very close and started a love story. What can you tell us about it?

It is thundering. There is a pretty immediate connection between Swan and Salome. The fact that this takes place during the baking championship also makes things stronger since they are on competing teams. It is a really passionate story between Swan and Salome.

Is Swann being completely honest with him, or is he acting on behalf of Chief Cardone (Alexandra Vandernoot) in hopes of destabilizing Teyssier’s (Benjamin Barochet) team?

All I can say is that Swan is a very honest person and very true to himself. That is, he follows his ambitions and personal desires. Finally, Swan is quite independent. I think that’s what makes him a little mysterious, because a priori, he’s not on anyone’s heels.

Teissier looks very dimly at Swan and Salome’s rapprochement. Will he try to separate them?

What Swann sees so far is that Teyssier doesn’t seem to like him very much. It is very suspicious. Swan realizes this but doesn’t care. He is an adult, he is the master of his personal life. So he doesn’t care much about it. Perhaps he also tends to think that others are somewhat like him. As a result, he doesn’t really think about Salome’s bets.

Despite everything, Swann’s behavior is sometimes mysterious and definitely raises questions. Did he have something to hide?

I think we all have secrets to hide, but no. Swan has an observant side. He feels a bit alien. When he arrives in the middle of people who already know each other, he keeps a little distance. He knows they don’t know who he is. I understand that he has a mysterious side that raises questions, but he’s just too focused on cooking, because it’s also very important to him, by the way.

We know that Swan and Salome are going to find Albany’s body on the beach. Can you tell us more about this macabre discovery and what’s next for your characters?

This is something that will simply shake up the entire championship. Swann, as part of all other competitions, it directly affects him. This will definitely worry him. Because of his relationship with Salome, he will obviously be interested in this and will try to find out by participating in the investigation. Therefore, it will be directly involved.

Albany’s death finally disrupts this personal plan, represented by the Pastry Championship. It was this purpose that brought him here. He will need answers to progress in the rest of this championship.

Pastry championship is a place of quite tragic events. We imagine everyone will definitely blame themselves. Will Swann be on the list of potential suspects?

of course. There is a little Agatha Christie side. I believe that all those present at the championship will be punished sooner or later. This is a championship, it is limited and only those present at the competition know about it. After that, it could be from an outsider, but yes, Swann would be on the suspect list.

Will Swann be able to count on Salome’s support in this ordeal?

The relationship between Swan and Salome is bound to be strained, and that puts a bit of a damper on their story. Does he have doubts? Salome is sure to ask questions. After all, he doesn’t know Swan. They have the feeling that they know each other and understand each other perfectly, but there will surely come a moment when even their friends will ask if they really know him.

Could Swann stay on the show after this summer’s intrigue and could we see him join The Masters next year?

Swan already trained with Cardon in Lille, so I don’t know what his training level is. In any case, for now there is no question that he is in the Master’s degree at the institute. But nothing is ever ruled out.

How do you rate this experience? This is where it all begins.

I’m a bit sensitive. I get very nostalgic when I watch the episodes on TV. It was almost the spirit of summer camp. Very quickly I became close to many people with whom I became good friends. It’s a very intense experience. The setting of the Camargue also makes it very different. For more than a month, I was immersed in something that I did not know at all. I became interested in many things that I did not know. That’s why I do this job. Meet people and live different experiences. I have precious memories of him.

Do you have other projects besides Start Here?

Soon I will be in the Bardo series, where I will play the role of Antoine Charrier. I will also appear in Cattel Quilleur’s next film, Le temps d’aimer, as an American soldier.

In addition, I work a lot with freelance authors. I founded the studio Les Artifex, which is a kind of laboratory, a training room for actors and directors. All the times when I’m not filming and when the rest of the team isn’t filming, we come to practice. Together with this team we produce short films and we are preparing a feature film here.
