Netflix revealed that the premiere of “Hidden Agent” ran for 88.6 million hours during the first three days of airing. Released on Friday (7/22), the thriller starring Ryan Gosling (“La La Land”) and directed by the Russo brothers (“Avengers: Endgame”) was last week’s most watched streaming movie, in a poll that covered July from 18 to 24.
“The Hidden Agent” is also one of the most expensive films ever produced by Netflix, with a budget of around $ 200 million, but the good performance, such as the platform’s most-watched launch in 92 countries over the weekend, has already led to the company to announce this Tuesday (7/26) the production of a sequel and a film based on the feature film.
The week also marked the end of the reign of “Stranger Things” on the platform’s most-watched series. With 74.9 million hours watched, season 4 of the Duffer brothers’ sci-fi horror was surpassed by the romantic melodrama of “Virgin River 4”, which was watched for 105.4 million hours.
Since the premiere of Volume 1 of “Stranger Things 4” in late May, there has been only one other occasion when the series has not been to the top of the charts, when the third season premiere of “The Umbrella Academy” took the command for a week, again to be passed the following week. With that, “Stranger Things” was Netflix’s most watched attraction for nearly two months, generating a total of 1.3 billion hours of streaming.
In 3rd place was “Resident Evil”, which brought in 73.3 million viewer hours during its first full week of availability, after debuting in 2nd place last week.
The list also highlights the first season of “Manifest” in 4th place and the other seasons of “Stranger Things” in the top 10.
