It seems that SEGA’s blue hedgehog will have his film trilogy.
Sonic 2: The Movie is in theaters now. It comes after we were surprised by the success of the first installment, with Jim Carrey as the villain, in a difficult 2020. Now, once we have seen the second part, we can only say that we believe there will be a third. The reason is simple and is repeated, since the same thing happened in the first installment, its post-credits scene. We’re getting into spoiler territory next, so if you haven’t seen Sonic 2: The Movie yet, don’t read any further.
‘Sonic 2: The Movies’: Post-credits scene explained
The post-credits scene begins at an unspecified time after Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles team up to defeat Robotnik and his robot. Commander Walters (Tom Butlers) says that there has been no sign of Doctor Robotnik since the battle. However, we see Agent Stone (Lee Majdoub) sneaking past the agents, so we assume he helped his “friend of his” escape.
But the important part of the scene comes when the Commander is told that, while erasing Robotnik’s data from the GUN database, they have found the coordinates of a dark secret location, a research facility called Project Shadow. That’s when we see Shadow the hedgehog, Sonic’s dark counterpart, opening his eyes. Since ‘Sonic Adventure 2’, Shadow is a replica of Sonic artificially created by Doctor Robotnik’s grandfather, Gerald Robotnik, in a project that sought the formula for immortality.
It must be said that Shadow is not a villain, although his creation and origin generates contradictions, he is more of an antihero, although somewhat darker than Tuckles, more of a friendly rival than anything else.
Given what happened with Tuckles and Tails in this second installment, it is expected that the third part will do something similar with Shadow, although they will have to modify something so as not to trace the formula. The important thing, after all, is that they are already and we are thinking about ‘Sonic 3: The movie’.
