The repression against him reached his peak during his military dictatorship, when he revoked his political rights and lost his position on national radio. Even under constant vigilance, Mario Lago has never abandoned his political sentence. In 1957, he went to the Soviet Union at the invitation of Moscow radio, but was disappointed by the excessive control of the regime’s artistic productions.
However, he remained faithful to social causes and, in the 80s, he was aligned with the workers’ party (PT), actively participating in electoral campaigns and political debate in the country.
Legacy in the arts
