I’m still here made history by winning the best international film statuette at the 97th ceremony of the biggest cinema awards

Walter Salles(Central do Brasil), director I’m still herewhich made history by beating the Oscar for Best International Film at the 97th edition of the biggest cinema awards, honored Eunice Paivainspiration for the feature, FERNANDA TORRES (Tapas & Kisses) and Fernanda Montenegro (Invisible life), interpreters of the character, during his thanksgiving speech.

“In the name of Brazilian cinema, it is such a great honor to receive this from such an extraordinary group. This goes to a woman who, after such a large loss in such an authoritarian regime, decided not to fold and resist … This award goes to her: her name is Eunice Paiva”shouted the filmmaker on the award stage, which took place in Los Angeles, California (USA), last Sunday (2).

What is the story of I’m still here?

Based on the book of the same name of MARCELO RUBENS PAIVA, I’m still hereis set in Rio de Janeiro in the early 1970s, amid the military dictatorship, and tells the story of Eunice (FERNANDA TORRES), mother of five, who engages in an endless search for the truth after her husband, Rubens (Selton Mello, The Auto da Compadecida 2), be brought by police to the landscape and disappear.
