A new team of women leads the Amazon Prime Video series, which expands on the stories of its predecessor and grapples with racial discrimination in America.
The ‘A League of Their Own’ series, based on the 1992 hit film ‘Ellas de el coup’, arrives on Amazon Prime Video this August to reinvigorate the adventures of a wartime baseball girl group. The Rockford Peaches return thirty years after the premiere of their film version, directed by Penny Marshall and starring Geena Davis, Lori Petty, Tom Hanks and Madonna, joining the best series based on movies.
The premiere date of ‘A League of Their Own’ is August 12 on Amazon Prime Video. From there we can see how the creators have transferred the original material to the small screen, with a new cast, new characters and the possibility of expanding and diversifying their personal stories through its eight episodes. In addition, the series achieves something that its predecessor could not do: put the dreams of African-American players in the forefront. If we remember, in Marshall’s film there is a shy moment in which a black woman throws a ball that has escaped the field, and leaves the main team impressed. And that was it. What would happen if we followed the story of that and other women who did not necessarily get the media attention?

That is what this new series created by Will Graham and Abbi Jacobson aspires to. “We grew up obsessed with the movie, just like everyone else. Three years ago, we approached Sony with the idea of telling a new set of those still largely overlooked stories. We feel beyond lucky and excited to be able to give life to these characters. It took grit, fire, authenticity, wild imagination and a crackling sense of humor for these players to achieve their dreams. We look forward to bringing audiences a story with all of those qualities,” Jacobson said in a statement.
Jacobson is precisely one of the protagonists of ‘A League of Their Own’ along with Chanté Adams, D’Arcy Carden, Gbemisola Ikumelo, Roberta Colindrez, Nick Offerman, Saidah Arrika Ekulona, Kate Berlant, Kendall Johnson, Kelly McCormack, Alex Désert, Priscilla Delgado, Aaron Jennings, Molly Ephraim, Melanie Field, and Dale Dickey. Whether in or out of the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League, the series follows a new cast of hilarious characters as they chart their own paths. onto the pitch, getting to know each other as a team and discovering themselves.
