The biggest film debut of the week is the animation “DC League of Superpets”, a sort of “Pets – The Secret Life of Pets” featuring the superheroes of DC Comics. The film will arrive at the end of the school holidays on a congested circuit and will compete for space with current box office leader, “Minions 2: The Rise of Gru”.

ALLOY DC SUPERPETS
Animation focusing on Krypto, the superdog, shows how pets gain superpowers and team up to save the world, while Superman is in trouble. The story tells a very different origin for most of the characters, but it doesn’t matter, because the tone is of a seedy comedy, which even makes fun of Batman’s seriousness – voiced by Keanu Reeves (“The Matrix”) in English.
Most people will see the dubbed copies, but it’s worth knowing that the original vocal cast is spectacular, most notably Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson (from the “Jumanji” franchise) as the voice of Krypto, John Krasinski (“A Place Silent “) as Superman, Marc Maron (” GLOW “) as the villain Lex Luthor, Olivia Wilde (” Tron: Legacy “) as Lois Lane and Kevin Hart (also from” Jumanji “) as the voice of Ace, the dog who in the 1950s comics was Batman’s dog-bat.
Written and directed by Jared Stern (writer of “Lego Batman: The Movie”) and Sam Levine (from the animated series “Penn Zero: Almost a Hero”).
A HERO
Asghar Farhadi’s new drama, which won two Oscars for Best International Film for “A Separation” (2011) and “The Apartment” (2016), also won 11 international awards, including the Grand Jury Prize at the Festival of Cannes. and was selected to represent Iran at the 2022 Oscars. The plot follows a man named Rahim who, after being released from debt prison, returns a lost bag full of gold coins, an act that seems to make him a good Samaritan man. However, the story turns out to be more complicated.
The complication also extended to the backstage. Young Azadeh Masihzadeh, who was a student of Farhadi’s, says the script for her documentary “All Wins, All Lose”, about a man who finds a bag of gold and decides to return it to its owner, served as the basis for “A hero.” Worse: “All Wins, All Lose” was developed as a class work in a directing course. The fight ended in court – and in Iran that can lead to arrests and lashes.

At the same time, there is a counterpoint with sick children waiting for action. The screenplay was awarded at the LGBTQIA + Film Festival in Milan.

ME, CHRISTIANE F., 13 YEARS OLD, DRUGS AND PROSTITUTE – ISSUE 40 YEARS
Uli Edel’s film gave a lot to talk about 40 years ago. Based on a famous memoir, it shows how the German teenager with the title goes to hell in the 1970s when she becomes addicted to heroin. Everything in her life slowly begins to revolve around drugs, including her new addict friends and her slutty boyfriend, who inspire her to prostitute herself at age 13 to support her addiction. In addition to the shocking scenes, which include sharing dirty syringes in the dirty toilets of the Berlin subway zoo station, the film also captures scenes from a David Bowie concert at the height of his career.
By the way, this story was recently redone in the miniseries “We, The Children of the Zoo Station” (2021), available on HBO Max.
