Sylvester Stallone has raised the tone of his criticism of the producer of the “Rocky” franchise, expressing his frustration with the recently announced spin-off “Dragon”, which focuses on the evil fighter from “Rocky IV” (1985).
The actor shared his disappointment in an Instagram post on Saturday (7/30). Without naming his disaffected Irwin Winkler, he mentions a “94-year-old producer” – despite Winkler being 91.
“Another heartbreaking news … I just found out … Once again, this pathetic 94-year-old producer and his useless vulture sons Charles and David are cleaning the bones of another wonderful character I created without even telling me. “wrote Stallone. “I apologize to the fans, I never wanted the ‘Rocky’ characters to be exploited by these parasites.”
Stallone also quoted actor Dolph Lundgren, who played Soviet champion boxer Ivan Drago in “Rocky IV” and “Creed II”.
“By the way, I have nothing but respect for Dolph, but I wish he had told me what was going on behind my back,” concluded Stallone. “Keep your true friends close.”
He upped the ante with a new post this Sunday (7/31) in which he showed Winkler as a vampire, feeding on his blood and getting rich with the rights to “Rocky”. “After Irwin Winkler sucked ‘Rocky’, Hollywood’s most hated, talentless, decrepit producer and his cowardly sons found their next meal … ‘Dragon’. Give me back my rights, bloodsucker!” He then renamed Lundren. “Dolph, why? Not a phone call?”
In fact, Lundgren was the first to mention a project in development on his character. This was last year, but at the time the film was seen as a long shot.
The “Drago” project was made official last Thursday (28/7). The screenplay was written by Robert Lawton (“Crave”) and will focus on the relationship between Russian boxer Ivan Drago (Dolph Lundgren) and his son Viktor Drago (Florian Munteanu), who faced Michael B. Jordan in “Creed 2” . (2018).
Stallone had already made negative comments against Winkler earlier this month. Sharing a portrait of the producer drawn as a snake, the actor expressed frustration at the alleged deprivation of a stake in the “Rocky” franchise.
But as the star laments, MGM prepares to take back the Rocky universe in “Creed III,” which will once again bring Michael B. Jordan back as Adonis Creed, the son of Apollo Creed (Carl Weathers), first opponent and Rocky’s friend. . In addition to acting, Jordan will make his directorial debut in the new sequel, which will premiere on March 3, 2023 in the United States. For now, there are still no predictions for the launch in Brazil.
