The first group of democrats is released to Hong Kong after 4 years of penalty for subversion

The first group of people arrested in the historic national security process of Hong Kong against “47 Democrats” accused of conspiracy to commit subversion, was released on Tuesday (Monday in Brazil) after being arrested for more than four years.

The local media reported that four former pro-democracy-class Mo, Kwok Ka-Ki, Jeremy Tam and Gary legislators would have been released by three different arrests to Hong Kong.

A Reuters witness out of Stanley’s arrest, where Kwok and Tam were detained, saw several vehicles departing just before dawn. A police officer told journalists that he left. Vehicles were also viewed, leaving the prison more remote than Shek Pik on the island of Lantau.

Since the large and continuous pro-democracy protests broke out in Hong Kong for most of 2019, China has suppressed the democratic opposition, as well as liberal civil society and media, based on global national security laws.

The 47 activists in favor of democracy were arrested and accused at the beginning of 2021 to commit subversion, pursuant to a national law imposed by Beijing who can even cause perpetual imprisonment.

Forty -five of them were sentenced after an exhaustive process, with penalties up to ten years. Only two were acquitted.
