According to the president, “the American film industry is dying very fast” and the measure intends to bring production back to the country
President of the United States, Donald TrumpIt announced last Sunday (4), a 100% rate on all films produced abroad. On his social networks, he said he authorized the Department of Commerce and the US commercial representative’s office to institute the charge because “the American film industry is dying very fast.”
According to TrumpThis would be a way to combat foreign cities initiatives such as Toronto, Canada and Dublin in Ireland, which have offered major fiscal insensions to movie and television studios so that their productions are running outside Hollywood, considered the largest film hub in the world.
With the measure, the president aims to bring production back to the United States. “This is a joint effort from other nations and therefore a threat to national security”he said Trump. “It’s, besides all, message and advertising!”he added, without going into details on how and when the charge begins to be implemented.
