Cardinals celebrate the opening mass of the Conclave


The ceremony precedes a vote to choose Francisco’s successor

The traditional Roman pontifio “Pro Eligando di Massa – which precedes the vote of the first day of the Conclave which will define the successor of Pope Francis – began on the morning of Wednesday (7) in the Basilica of San Pietro, in the Vatican.

The mass is concelebrated by the voters of the cardinals and chaired by the dean of Cardinal College, Giovanni Battista Re. The ceremony that begins the process of choosing the new leader of the Roman Catholic Church is also open to the public.

After the ritual, around 16:20 (local time), the religious will meet in the first loggia of the Vatican Apostolic Palace, from which they will continue in the procession of the Paolina chapel at the Sistine Chapel, singing the anus “Veni Creator” to invoke the Holy Spirit.
