The United States celebrate the “successful rescue” of the opponents at the Argentine Embassy of Caracas

The United States Secretary of State Marco Rubio declared Tuesday that after an operation he described as “accurate”, all “detained” opponents in the Argentine residence in Caracas have been saved and are safe in the United States territory.

In a message on his X account, Rubio added that the United States celebrate the “successful rescue” of the five Venezuelans, collaborators of the opposition leader María Corina Machado, who have been held in the diplomatic residence since March 2024, after the accusation has accused them of conspiracy and issued the arrests for them.

Another opposition councilor who lived in the residence, Fernando Martínez, surrendered to the judicial procedure in December and died at his house in February, said the opposition.

Rubio did not provide details on the operation and Machado declared in another publication on social media that it was an “impeccable and epic” operation.

“We will free each of our 900 heroes arrested,” added Machado, referring to several politicians and activists who were arrested last year.

The departure of Machado’s employees from the residence of Argentina, who was under the Brazilian guard after Buenos Aires interrupted Caracas reports in July, occurred at the time of President Nicolás Maduro in Moscow for events to celebrate the 80th anniversary of the Nazi victory in the Second World War.

The Brazilian government, which had provided political protection to the embassy, said she was not informed about the operation.

Already the Argentine president Javier Milei expressed his appreciation for the successful operation and thanked the people involved, in particular the Secretary of State of the United States.

“The national government deeply appreciates the efforts made to guarantee the safety and well -being of those who have long been under Argentine protection against the persecution of the Nicolás Maduro regime,” said the president’s office in X.

“This action represents an important step in the defense of freedom in the region,” he added.

The Ministry of Communications of Venezuela did not immediately respond to a commentary request.
