For Monroe’s official estate, the Cuban actress managed to “capture the glamour, humanity and vulnerability of Marilyn”

In an interview with VarietyNonetheless, Marc Rosenthe entertainment president of the Authentic Brands Group (ABG) and owner of Marilyn Monroe Estatedefended the cast of the film, stating that of weapons was “a great choice” to represent Marilyn.
“Marilyn Monroe is a unique icon of Hollywood and pop culture that transcends generations and history.” Rosen. “Any actress who takes on this role knows she has a big place to fill.”

Such is the difficulty of reviving Marilyn Monroe on the big screen that Andrew Dominik, the biopic’s director, took nearly a decade to cast the perfect actress for the role. According to NME, Jessica Chastain (Tammy Faye’s Eyes) and Naomi Watts (Diana) were even quoted for the project, which has been under development since 2010.
In 2019, however, Ana de Armas was cast in the cast. At the time, the Cuban woman stated that she “knew she could do this”. Even so, the role would bring her several challenges, since, for the actress, “a Cuban playing Marilyn Monroe” would be “innovative”.
