The aviation leader uses fuel with emissions less than 80% and anticipates the requirement that will arrive by 2027; The flight uses biofuels considered “clean”

Summary

The aviation leader makes the first commercial flight with SAF, which marks the progress in Brazilian decarbonisation plans. The fuel made with used kitchen oil reduces emissions and anticipates the future aviation

This week important records for Brazilian aviation were established, with the first commercial flight of a helicopter that uses fuel for sustainable aviation (SAF) in the country.

Leader Aviation, in collaboration with Vibra, who provided fuel (SAF) through Br Aviation -transported the operation to Rio de Janeiro, transporting professionals of the Energy Company professionals to the platforms on the upper sea.

The flight, which started from Jacarepaguá airport, was fed by a mixture Composed of 10% SAF and 90% of the traditional aeronautical kerosene (from jet to fossil).

This mixture, which has involved a reduction of about 9% in CO² emissions for the flight, is certified by the ANP (National Oil, Natural Gas Agency and Biocarburants) and was verified by an UFMG laboratory, ensuring the safety and traceability of the process.

The SAF used on this flight is produced by used kitchen oil (UCO), a residue that turns into a good type of decarbonisation solution. Since it is a drop-in fuel, it does not require changes to the aircraft engines, which facilitates the gradual transition to the clearer aviation.

For Diego Reis, general manager of the operations of the leader of the aviation Helicopter, the initiative represents a “concrete step towards a more sustainable operation”.

JULIAN PRODO, executive vice -president of the Vibra B2B Commercial, strengthens the company’s pioneering spirit in the marketing of SAF in Brazil, contributing to the decarbonisation of the airspace.

Curious to say that the aviation leader has anticipated a requirement that will only come into force from 2027, when the use of sustainable fuel in air operations will be mandatory. The use of SAV integrates a large plan of sustainability of the company, which seeks efficiency in fuel consumption and active participation in debates on the future of aviation.
