Will “Let the river run” be heard again?
The film ‘Armas de Mujer’ will have a reboot. Actress and producer Selena Gomez is in talks to produce a remake of the 1988 classic starring Melanie Griffith alongside Harrison Ford and Sigourney Weaveras confirmed by sources.
The original version was directed by Mike Nichols, and the cast also included, in addition to Griffith, Ford and Weaver, Alec Baldwin and Joan Cusack. According to reports, this reinvention will be developed by 20th Century Studios, with a script by Ilana Pena, and will stream on Huluaccording to Entertainment Weekly.
For her part, Gómez, 30, will perform the work of producer in this new version, as confirmed by PEOPLE. A director or director has not yet been announced.
In the original, Griffith played the role of Tess McGill, an ambitious secretary who exacts revenge on her dishonest boss, Katherine Parker (Weaver), by posing as her when Parker is out of the office recovering from a broken leg. Ford played Jack Trainer, Parker’s boyfriend and McGill’s love interest. The film received five Oscar nominations, including Best Actress for Griffith and two Best Supporting Actress nominations for Weaver and Cusack. Nichols, who died in 2014 at age 83, was also nominated for Best Director, and the film also received a Best Picture nomination.
When the film turned 30 in 2018, Griffith celebrated on his Instagram account by sharing an image of the film’s poster.
“30 years ago today, ‘Working Girl’ (its original title) was released in theaters around the world“wrote the actress.”I am so grateful to have played Tess McGill and to have helped empower women all these years.“.
The actress went on to say: “I am so thankful and proud to have been a part of this wonderful cast and especially thankful to our director Mike Nichols. I’m so happy that it stands the test of time“.
“So… here it is for all the workers who dare to dream big and who have the courage to believe in themselves against all odds!” Griffith concluded in the caption. “Go for it!!
We will have to wait if the new version is up to date, given that in these three decades they have witnessed more changes and new feminist views. We’ll see how Gomez adjusts it in her new production. Meanwhile, she can still be seen in the second season of ‘Only murders in the building’, trying to find the new killer with Steve Martin and Martin Short.
