The vote, which also covers the laws at work, continues until the second
Italy has opened the polls on Sunday (8) to vote in five referendums that can harden the laws at work and halve the deadline for immigrants to request Italian citizenship. Until 12 in local hour (7 of Brasilia), 7.4% of the voters voted for over 61,500 sections, according to the Ministry of the Interior. Today the vote extends up to 23 hours (18 hours of Brasilia) and tomorrow (9) will go from 7 to 15 hours (2h to 10h).
In these first hours of popular consultation, Emilia-Romagna is the region with the largest frequency of voters. Always based on the local 12h, about 10.9% of the admissible population voted, or more than three and a half points above the national average. The provinces of Bologna (13.3%) and Reggio Emilia (12.2%) are the most explained of votes, with peaks in the main cities (Bologna with 14.3%, Modena with 13.3%and Reggio Emilia with 13%).
Another region that had the average electoral presence above the National Era Liguria, with 9.23%.
Already Ombria (6.75%), Campania (5.85%) and Calabria (4.38%) are among the regions with the compliance rate with the lowest vote.
Popular consultations were summoned after the campaigns promoted by central parties and left and civil society organizations, unprepared the right -wing government Giorgia Meloni, who defends abstention in the five questions.
If participation does not exceed 50% of the electorate, the results will be disabled, so that the result of the referendum is uncertain.
The proposal comes in the wake of the changes promoted by the government of Meloni in citizenship by Blood Right (Jus Sanguinis), who will now be recognized only for the descendants who have a parent or grandfather born in Italy.
The restriction has raged the Italian community-registration abroad, in particular in the nations that were the main destinations of Italian immigrants in the 19th and 20th century, such as Brazil.
The referendum, however, addresses only citizenship for immigrants, who would still need to demonstrate the intermediate knowledge of Italian and economic self -sufficiency to achieve double nationality.
The project would also be indirectly for the benefit of the minor children of these immigrants, who today need to wait for 18 years of age and have always lived in Italy to ask for citizenship. “I am very contrary to halving the deadlines of citizenship. The law on citizenship in Italy is great and very open,” said Meloni last Thursday (5).
The other four referendums try to reverse the flexibility in the laws approved since 2015, in the management of the then Prime Minister of Matteo Renzi Center.
The requirements propose the return of the prohibition of unjustified layoffs of companies with more than 15 employees, the end of the limit to compensation for orders, although without justification in small businesses, the introduction of more rigorous rules for temporary contracts and the responsibility of the contracting company in case of accidents with employees in outs outsourcing.
