Mission Impossible: Will Tom Cruise Leave the Franchise After the Eighth Film? director responds

Christopher McQuarrie Responds to Rumors About Tom Cruise’s Farewell at the End of the Franchise’s Eighth Film

Mission: Impossible 7 – Payback could be the farewell of Tom Cruise in the role of agent Ethan Hunt? The sequel’s director Christopher McQuarrietalked about the future of the franchise and Tom Cruise in Account Settlement.

Regarding the rumours, McQuarrie said on the podcast Light the Fuse (via Variety) that the public cannot believe everything they read. However, the director did not confirm or deny the speculation.

I’ve been working with Tom Cruise for 15 years and I can’t count how many times I’ve stood next to the man, witnessed something and then read about it in negotiations the next day, none of what they describe is actually true.

McQuarrie he even commented on the only real news he read about his colleague. The headline in question said that Tone and four other guests went out to dinner at an Indian restaurant and the actor had ordered three dishes of chicken tikka masala sauce.

“I called Tom the next day and said, ‘There’s something odd about this article. It’s 100% factually correct!’” joked the filmmaker. “This is the first time I have read an article where everything happened exactly as it is written.”

About the fake news, McQuarrie indicates that most headlines about the film industry have some intention behind them. “If you read that something was said by ‘anonymous sources’ or ‘someone close to the production’, you can know that someone said it for some very specific reason, and it’s hard to know what that reason is.”

Although it has not clearly stated whether Tom Cruise will continue in the Mission Impossible franchise, Christopher McQuarrie said that he already has a new project aligned with cruise. “It hasn’t been released yet, but it’s something we’ve discussed for a long time. It’s totally outside of what you’re used to seeing Tom do.”

Mission Impossible: Payback – Part 1 is scheduled for release on July 13, 2023 in theaters. The footage of Part 2 are in the works and the film is slated for a June 28, 2024 release. Watch the official trailer below:
